Our History

Founded in 1954, by Kehinde Sofola, SAN, CON and now in its third generation, ours is the legacy of a great and highly respected legal mind in Nigerian history. Kehinde Sofola had a highly distinguished legal career that made a great impact on Nigerian legal jurisprudence.

Kehinde Sofola was called to the Bar at the Lincolns Inn in 1954 and was made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1978. In 1983, Kehinde served briefly as Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after which he returned to full time legal practice. He was elected as the chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers in 1994, and in 2002 he was honoured with the national merit award of Commander of the Order of the Niger. On his death in 2007, Kehinde Sofola and Co was absorbed into Kayode Sofola & Associates.

Kayode Sofola & Associates was founded in 1990 by our Principal Partner, Kayode Sofola, SAN. Kayode is an eminent commercial lawyer, with a reputation of being an adviser to advisers. He was called to the Nigerian Bar and joined Kehinde Sofola and Co in 1976. He became managing partner of Kehinde Sofola and Co. in 1983 and was made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1995.

We have been successful in building a firm with the esteem of being a leader in legal practice and training in Nigeria. Alumni of the firm, which include Chief Judges of State High Courts, Judges of High Courts and the Court of Appeal, and partners of other leading firms in Nigeria, are proud of the distinction of their association with the firm.
